June 6th

We arrived in Barcelona in the evening. I scrambled to 4 ATMs before finding one that was working, and withdrew Euro for the trip.  The four of us took a taxi to our hotel on the Ramblas, the Royal. It is billed as a 4 star hotel.  We checked in and met my parents in the lobby. We strolled the Ramblas and found Kentucky Fried Chicken for the children. I know, our first night in Europe and we ate American fast food. Oh well. The next morning we scouted the market for fruit, croissants, chocolate croissants, and coffee for breakfast. A fun bustling market, with recognizable animal and fish parts on display.  We then met up with a Fat Tire Bike Tour through town. This was a great way to see a lot of the sites, Sagrada Familia,  Music Hall, Bullfighting arena, Cathedral, the beach for lunch. It is mostly flat and everyone kept up easily. We stopped at the Sagrada Familia for a refreshment break, soft drinks and gelato.

After this, we ventured to the chocolate museum and had more refreshments in the cafe/gift shop. We sampled the Spanish thick chocolate drink with the dipping churros. Yummy. After a dinner in the Barri Gothic at a  Taller de Tapas restaurant and more strolling on the Ramblas, we turned in for our last night before the Cruise.
